Different
from the usual books that I read and something I would have never picked up had
I not signed up for this reading challenge. Vishakha a doctor gets ditched by
her fiancé Munish who chooses Vishakha’s younger sister Saira. Feeling let
down, she goes on to prove it to herself as well as others that she is worthy
of being cherished and not stepped over. And how she does that? In a very
typical Mills and Boon fashion by achieving approval of a hunk. In this case it
happens to be bollywood heartthrob Zaheer Saxena. While reviewing such books is
a feminist’s nightmare, I still managed to finish it. Vishakha wins a date with
Zaheer in a contest. There is an uncanny attraction between the two. While Zaheer
wants to get Mia, his co-actor off his back, Vishakha wants to prove to her
family that she can do much better than Munish. So they become fiancé for a
day. One thing leads to another. And in a typical fairy tale style, what starts
as an arrangement leads to something more. They fall for each other and decide
to be with each other. Cute and mushy but very much caught within the
patriarchal understandings that no matter how much difference you are making in
the lives of people by working as a doctor, the ultimate fulfillment of your
life needs the approval of a man. A bollywood actor who is pretty much out of
your league falls for you, adding meaning to your life. It lives up to what
books in Mills and Boon series promise. An average read for those who enjoy
such books, nothing great if one wants to take a peek in the life of a working
woman caught in the melee of wedding.
